Drukgyel Dzong
Overview
Located at the Paro Valley's northern tip, Drukgyel Dzong is a vital archaeological landmark. Known for years as a noble ruin, this 'Fortress of Victory' has seen a major reconstruction, reviving its timberwork and walls. Story & Significance
Founded in 1651 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, this fortress honors a victory over Tibetan forces. It served as a vital defense for centuries until a 1951 fire left it in ruins. In 2016, a project using traditional methods began to rebuild the dzong to celebrate the Crown Prince's birth, marking it as a living emblem of architectural rebirth.
