Tachog Lhakhang & Iron Bridge
Overview
Perched on a ridge over the Paro Chhu, Tachog Lhakhang is a remarkable 15th-century private temple. Reached via a historic iron chain bridge, it showcases medieval engineering at its finest. Story & Significance
This landmark was founded by the polymath Thangtong Gyalpo. Known as the 'Iron Bridge Builder,' he established 58 chain bridges across Tibet and Bhutan. Legend says he used spiritual power to forge links from mountain iron. Today, his descendants maintain the Lhakhang, preserving the 15th-century legacy of an artisan-saint whose engineering has endured for hundreds of years.
