Overview

The National Memorial Chorten is Thimphu's most visible religious landmark. Serving as a monument to World Peace and a memorial to the Third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, it offers travelers with Ziibba Travel a deeply touching entry into the daily devotional life of the Bhutanese people.

Story & Significance

The Memorial Chorten stands as a beacon of Thimphu’s spiritual devotion. The chorten was commissioned by Ashi Phuntsho Choden Wangchuk in 1974, it pays homage to her son, the Third King. Today, the stupa hums with the energy of locals performing clockwise kora from dawn to dusk. We invite you to join this rhythmic flow of prayers, perhaps lighting a symbolic butter lamp for global peace.
