Gasa Dzong
Overview
Tucked away in the kingdom's remote north, Gasa Dzong is a stunningly secluded outpost. Its unique circular design and intimate scale stand apart from the grand lowland fortresses, reflecting the rugged character of the region. Story & Significance
Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal established this fortress in 1648 to block Tibetan incursions from the north. Formally known as Trashi Thongmon, this sacred complex honors the deity Ap Gomo. The region is equally celebrated for its historic Gasa Tshachu, natural hot springs prized for their therapeutic essence since ancient times.
